SurfacesThe following data files have been generated by a variety of surface topography measurement instruments that are available for surface examination within CMMT. The data has been visualised using an Explorer program and then a VRML file has been generated. Click on the headings to view the files. If you have CosmoPlayer installed you will see a 3D object which can be viewed from any angle. These data files can be quite large, so be prepared for a long download time! (The size of the file is indicated beside the heading). If you do not want to download CosmoPlayer, you can view 2D images of the models by selecting the "2D Image Only" links. Simple Surface (17Kb) - (2D Image Only (41Kb))A computer-generated example surface representing the intersection of two sine waves. Part of a Transistor (337Kb) - (2D Image Only (26Kb))A real surface, a section of a transistor. The data was captured by a scanning optical microscope (SOM). Microlens (342Kb) - (2D Image Only (32Kb))A section of a microlens array - if you've seen an NPL microlens badge, this is what it might look like close up! Data captured by a scanning optical microscope (SOM). 20p Piece (2744Kb) - (2D Image Only (42Kb))The surface topography of the "tails" side of an English 20 pence piece, captured by a line scanner. |
